INTRODUCTION
This case study explores the design process of the Re:Tech Merchant app, a mobile solution empowering restaurant owners and managers to monitor critical metrics and perform essential tasks away from the physical point-of-sale (POS) system.
CHALLENGES
Restaurant owners and managers struggle with:
• Limited access to real-time data: They lack crucial insights outside the restaurant's POS system.
• Inability to monitor suspicious activity: They cannot monitor actions like voids, cancellations, and irregular employee clocking.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Restaurant Managers: Gain real-time insights, track employee schedules, and identify potential operational issues.
Business Owners: Monitor overall restaurant performance and receive crucial notifications.
SOLUTION & PROCESS
Data Gathering & Research:
• Surveys and Interviews: Conducted with restaurant owners and experts to identify valuable reports and notification preferences.
• Competitive Analysis: Analyzed competitor offerings and user research to inform initial design features.
MVP Development & User Flow:
• Essential Functionalities: Defined the core features for the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) launch.
• User Flow: Designed user flow for both single and multi-location businesses, ensuring efficient information access.
• Focus: Prioritized displaying key metrics and facilitating quick navigation within the app.
DESIGN & FEATURES
Prioritized Data: Showcased the most crucial data, offering an immediate overview of key performance indicators (KPIs).
Multi-Location Differentiation: Employed color coding for easy location identification.
Interactive Cards: Enabled users to delve deeper into specific data points.
Location and Date Selection: Users can choose to view reports for all locations or specific locations within a specified date range.
Settings and My profile: In the Settings and My profile section, users can customize their viewable data, select display themes, adjust notifications, and update personal information.
The app was successfully launched in November 2022 as a beta version for Re:Tech customers and is available on the app store.
